First electric Bentley will host different technologies than its rivals

The English have been forced to delay the launch of their first electric car, but that extra time will allow them to develop technology that will put them ahead of their direct rivals.

Little by little, technology has become one of the main arguments when buying and selling a car. Offering revolutionary systems turn the latest releases into showcases where it is difficult to distinguish science fiction from reality. Despite his classic approach, Bentley has high hopes for his electric strategy. His first release will be presented at the end of 2025 and, although there are still many things that are unknown about him, now a rather interesting one has been revealed that will leave everyone speechless.

Rolls-Royce, Bentley’s great rival for more than a century, has been the first to launch a super-luxury electric car. The Rolls-Royce Specter has been a huge sales success and Crewe knows they have to offer something more to beat it. The beginnings of the era of electrification are not easy for Bentley. Although it already offers plug-in products, the first attempt to present a 100% electric vehicle is proving to be much more complicated than expected. The problems have delayed development, although it is also allowing them to explore new technologies.

Everything was scheduled for a great launch at the beginning of 2025, but the accumulated delays in the company in charge of developing the Volkswagen software, Cariad, have forced the presentation to be postponed for a few months. The first electric Bentley will be released at the end of 2025 to enter the markets in 2026. Its design is still a mystery, though many say the Bentley Batur is a preview of the statuesque presence to come. Concepts will be mixed with the EXP 100 GT that was presented in 2019. How could it be otherwise, it will be a GT.

What we did not know until now, and that has been confirmed by the brand’s executive director, Adrian Hallmark, through Autocar, is that it will offer a hands-free autonomous driving system: “Initially it will offer driving without partial intervention on highways with functions automated parking. Later, it will be fully autonomous.”

It will come to have a level 3 of autonomous driving and its technology will be able to be updated remotely. Hallmark itself has confirmed that Bentley will take advantage of Mobileye’s SuperVision technology that was recently confirmed for the electric Porsche Macan. It will be integrated into the PPE platform with version 1.2 of the Volkswagen Group software. It will use a total of 11 cameras, Mobileye’s EyeQ5 chip, and high-definition maps collected from various sources to ensure accurate mapping of each road. All this will allow the driver to move without having to pay attention to the road. The theory, at least for now, is that. Ultimately, everything will depend on whether Cariad can meet the new deadlines.

As we told you a year ago, Bentley’s first electric car will not only be a marvel in terms of technology but also performance. The first figures surrounding the project are promising, the CEO himself confirmed them. Thanks to a power of up to 1,400 horsepower, the electric GT will be able to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 1.5 seconds. To deliver that performance, you will need to mount several electric motors, at least three, with a high-capacity battery. For now, no data has been revealed in this regard, although we will surely know them soon.
