Not only the R5 prototype should become a reality, but also the Renault 5 Alpine , as Renault boss Luca de Meo teasers. We know that about the range and price of the electric compact sports car, which could also be called the Alpine 5!
A small outline on Luca de Meo’s presentation slide announces the Renault 5 Alpine. In the course of a strategy presentation, the Renault boss presented the electric timetable with ten electric vehicles until 2026. And next to an Alpine SUV and an electrified A110, the proportions of the Renault 5 Prototype are also evident.
The exact name of the sports version of the retro model expected between 2023 and 2024 is still just as unclear as to the exact release date, but reaching into the historical nomenclature box can be considered quite likely. From 1977 to 1984 the so-called Renault 5 Alpine and Turbo marked the sportiest expansion stages on this side of the mid-engine racer Renault 5 Turbo.
But while the historical model had to make do with a maximum of 108 hp, the new edition of the Alpine should come up with significantly more power. How much? Not clear. The new, very efficient Renault Axial Flux electric machine, which is extremely short, may also be used here. Due to the high torque and power density, around 200 kW (272 hp) is easily possible.
This means that the Renault 5 would be able to stand up to competitors such as the Cupra Born (231 PS). The CMF-BEV platform should also enable ranges of up to 400 kilometers.
Renault 5 Alpine Price
What can already be seen from the first picture is the dynamic appearance of the French: For example, theAlpine has a rear wing protruding far behind the roof. Fans can also expect wider wheel arches in the style of the Renault 5 Turbo and a more aggressive front section. The computer illustration by Jean-François Hubert offers a first impression of where it might optically go.
Based on the Renault R5 prototype presented in January 2021, the virtual compact sports car cuts a pretty good figure and thus increases the anticipation of the Renault 5 Alpine. However, there will still be some time until the forecast market launch in 2024, which is why the price is currently difficult to estimate.
