The best Chinese electric cars of 2023

The automobile market is changing at breakneck speed. A decade ago, surely none of us would have considered buying a Chinese car. However, the commitment to electrification has led to the birth of many brands in the Asian country, as well as the reconversion of manufacturers that already had experience in that territory.

Thanks to this paradigm shift, the Chinese automobile industry has become especially competitive. Many of these brands are already trying to gain a foothold in Europe, as is the case with BYD. In this article, we are going to give a brief review of the best Chinese electric models that you can currently purchase in Europe.

The best Chinese electric cars of 2023

What are the best Chinese electric cars? Although the offer currently in Europe is very varied – and is increasing -, here we leave you a selection of the best models that are marketed for their quality-price ratio, equipment, and range.

When talking about prices, we will mention the rate before applying any type of aid, so that it is easier to make comparisons.

BYD Dolphin

BYD Dolphin

The BYD Dolphin is a compact car with a simple design. It is a perfect car for a user with a predictable routine who is looking for a functional vehicle. In general terms, we are talking about a car with an interesting price and that offers us very decent quality.

With an engine that develops 204 HP, the Dolphin is not short of range: it can travel up to 427 kilometers per charge, according to the WLTP cycle. In case you are a little pressed for time, it supports 100 kW fast charging. As for the price, it can be purchased for 35,690 euros.

MG4 Electric

Since Morris Garages has been owned by SAIC, the brand has specialized in offering good value for money in its products, something that is evident with the MG4.

This compact is sold for 30,690 euros with the Standard finish, which has a range of 350 kilometers and a power of 170 HP. The version focused on users looking to take longer trips is the Extended Range. It starts at 40,690 euros, has a range of 520 kilometers, and develops 245 HP.

The MG4 is a direct rival to the BYD Dolphin, both in size, performance, and price, both aimed at a type of customer looking for a good electric vehicle at a reasonable price.

BYD Seal

Competing head-to-head with the Tesla Model 3, the BYD Seal does not have too many weak points when compared directly to the American brand’s sedan. Starting with the visual part, the vehicle has a design that is not particularly original but does use a very attractive line, inspired by sedans from other brands.

BYD Seal

When driving it, the BYD Seal offers us an 82.5 kWh battery, which translates into a maximum range of 570 kilometers. The standard model starts at 46,990 euros and is rear-wheel drive. However, it can be configured with an all-wheel drive. In short, we are looking at one of the most complete electric cars if you don’t like SUVs and prefer a sedan with a decent price.

Aiways U6

Another brand from the Asian giant that is doing well with its products is Aiways. Despite its short history, this manufacturer has two models for sale that we can buy in Europe. The Aiways U6 is a safe bet, as it uses a body that seems to have caught on in Europe: the coupe SUV.

This model can be purchased in its Prime finish for 49,540 euros. It develops 218 HP, has 405 kilometers of range, and supports fast charging from 20 to 80% in a matter of 35 minutes. Aesthetically, it is also a vehicle that attracts quite a bit of attention, with very modern lines.

BYD Atto 3

With a starting price of 41,400 euros, the BYD Atto 3 aspires to become a benchmark in an electric C-SUV segment that is increasingly competitive. The vehicle supports 88 kW fast charging and approves 420 kilometers of range in the WLTP cycle.

The power of this crossover reaches  204 HP. At the same time, it offers a well-resolved interior space, with a very original design, good finishes, and a modern infotainment system.

MG Marvel R

The MG Marvel R is a version of the Roewe Marvel X that has been designed by SAIC specifically for Europe. It is a compact SUV with a fairly generous size that surprises with the quality of its finishes, as well as its fantastic equipment.

The MG Marvel R is sold in Comfort, Luxury, and Performance finishes. The most economical model has a starting price of 43,190 euros, develops 180 HP, and has a range of 402 kilometers. On the other hand, if we opt for performance, the four-wheel drive version jumps to 288 HP and minimally reduces its range to 370 kilometers. All versions support 150 kW fast charging.

BYD Han EV

If the BYD Seal stands up to the Model 3, the BYD Han aims much higher. It is the vehicle with which the Chinese brand plans to compete with larger sedans such as the Model S or the BMW i5. The approach of this vehicle is similar to the German one, as it is also sold in combustion versions in China.

Remaining only with the electric version – which in Europe is marketed simply as BYD Han -, this flagship stands out on almost all sides. Its design and finish levels are very high, both inside and outside.

The BYD Han has four-wheel drive and a combined power of 518 HP. The combined range that it approves is 521 kilometers, although the manufacturer assures that up to 662 kilometers can be traveled if it is used exclusively in the city. Finally, it also has great acceleration, as it is capable of doing 0 to 100 km/h in a matter of 3.9 seconds. This vehicle can be purchased for 69,990 euros in Europe.
