BYD responds to the best-selling car in the world

The BYD Seal U is a  direct alternative to the Tesla Model Y, so we could be talking about BYD’s most important launch so far. More than anything, the Model Y was crowned the best-selling car in the world in 2023, the first electric car to achieve this. And this time they have decided to go for a lower price, because the BYD Seal U arrives in Spain at 35,290 euros and the Tesla Model Y starts at 35,990 euros, both with the help of the MOVES III Plan. It is a small difference, but this time the BYD model is a cheaper option and there are important differences between its features.

The BYD Seal U began marketing in Spain in February 2024 and is an SUV model 4.78 meters long and 1.66 meters wide that also has a 2.76-meter wheelbase. Due to its dimensions, it fits between the BYD Atto 3 and the BYD Tango, which were already available previously and compete within the D SUV segment. There, as you already know, the Tesla Model Y is the protagonist, but there are other options such as the Volkswagen ID.4, the Ford Mustang Mach-e, or the Skoda Enyaq, among others.

Two versions for the BYD Seal U ‘with full’ equipment, model prices, power, range, and all the details

The BYD Seal U Comfort is the access finish and already has front and rear LED headlights, automatic lights, 19-inch alloy wheels, panoramic sunroof, and also electric and heated mirrors. It also has darkened rear windows, an interior mirror with an automatic anti-glare function, a multifunction vegan leather steering wheel adjustable in height and depth, and heated and ventilated seats, with electric adjustments. It also comes with aluminum roof bars, a 12.3-inch digital instrument panel, and a multimedia system with a 12.8-inch screen compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

To all of the above, we must add the keyless access and start system, the interior ambient lighting, the vegan leather upholstery or the electric tailgate, as well as the front and rear parking sensors, memory function for the driver’s seat, front center armrest, 360-degree panoramic view camera, adaptive cruise control with speed limiter and a very, very extensive package of driving assistance systems. In fact, in this version of the BYD Seal U, practically all the equipment that the model can have is already included.

Above is the BYD Seal U Design, which only adds the welcome light, the configurable RGB ambient lighting system, the rain sensor, the 15.6-inch multimedia screen, a high-fidelity sound system signed by Infinity, the air purification system, the Head-Up Display and wireless charger for mobile devices. And as I was telling you, there is no other configuration for the model in terms of finish and equipment. There is only a difference between the versions in this aspect, and it can be purchased with two batteries: 71.8 kWh or 87 kWh of energy storage capacity.

All versions of the BYD Seal U come with an electric configuration with a 218 HP motor and 310 Nm of maximum torque. The simplest uses a Blade battery with 71.8 kWh LFP cells and approves a range of 420 kilometers under the WLTP cycle. The higher version, of identical power, but with 87 kWh of battery, goes up to 330 Nm of maximum torque and reaches up to 500 km of maximum range according to the WLTP approval cycle.
