VW Aero B Spotted on test drives

Volkswagen is continuing to develop new models for the ID. Family. A concept model called ID. Space Vizzion has now been spotted on test drives for the first time – and the new electric model now bears the name VW Aero B for the first time. We have the latest information and pictures for you.

Now the next member of the ID. Family is in the starting blocks. The ID. Space Vizzion – now known as VW Aero B – is intended as a station wagon and sedan to appeal to families in particular and to become the electric counterpart to the Passat.

  • New VW ID model spotted
  • Electric alternative to the Passat
  • 700 km range
  • Station wagon and limousine are planned
  • Market launch in 2023

VW Aero B Prices and the start of sales

Under the name, ID. Space Vizzion was presented to an electric Passat model as a concept vehicle in 2019. Now the VW Aero B – as it is currently called – is driving almost undisguised as a production model of the sedan version on its test laps in the Austrian Alps.

The market launch is specified for 2023, from 2022 the Aero B will then be produced in the Emden plant. The Passat and Arteon are currently being manufactured here, and from 2022 the plant will then only produce the ID.models.

It is not yet known what the VW Aero B will cost.

Engines and driving behavior

The Aero B will be available as a station wagon and a sedan. The range of both vehicle versions should be around 700 kilometers – so suitable for everyday use and travel. The Aero B is also based on the VW Group’s electric car platform, which is also used for the other ID.models.

The model is offered with rear-wheel drive as standard, but there will certainly also be a faster and all-wheel-drive GTX performance model. This should then manage the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h in 5.6 seconds. As a rear cyclist, the Aero B needs around 8.5 seconds.

An 84 kWh battery is to be used and could provide an output of 279 hp. A 200 kW fast charge is also planned, which could then deliver enough juice for a range of 230 kilometers in just 10 minutes.

Technical data and exterior design

In the pictures, the Aero B looks pretty long and big overall. It will be located in the middle-class segment and will probably have a length of 4.96 meters, 1.90 meters wide, and 1.53 meters high. What is noticeable at first glance is the very eye-catching front apron. The daytime running lights on the side illuminate the way for us.

There is no longer a radiator grille because it is no longer needed in an electric car. The front part of the hood is lowered and then raised a little. There are probably aerodynamic reasons for this so that the air can be better guided over the roof.

The side view shows that VW has opted for a fairly high window line and strongly pronounced beads and notches in the sheet metal.

VW Aero B Interior and trunk

No pictures of the interior are known yet, but we assume that the interior of the ID.models that are already available for orientation will be used here. In addition, the company is sure to rely on sustainability and also offers leather-free options for the interior made from sustainable raw materials such as AppleSkin, an artificial leather that is made from the residues from apple production. But that is not yet certain, we have to wait a little longer.
