Brabus G 900 Rocket: First Details & Photos

Brabus has created the new Brabus G 900 Rocket Edition from the Mercedes G-Class. But even without tuning, the G-Class is the biggest star on the boulevard and mogul slopes. We took the rocket with us for the first test drive.

The Mercedes G-Class probably has more talents than any other Mercedes and thanks to the Bottrop tuner: inside it is called the new  Brabus G 900 Rocket Edition even to the athlete with whom we are contesting the first test drive. A copy of the small series, which is limited to 25 pieces, is available for 571,270 euros (as of June 2021). The name “Rocket” says it all, and not only because the 4.5 liter V8 from the Brabus version of the four-door AMG GT has an impressive 900 hp. But because a kick down in this G feels like a rocket launch. 2.5 tons of weight and the Cd value of a wall unit: When raw forces rage sensually, then the physics takes a break and the cavalryman shoots from zero to 100 km / h in 3.7 seconds.

And where AMG even with increased top speed 240 km / h puts an end to, Brabus grants the steam ram on speed run-out up to 280 km / h. In addition to the larger engine, there are two separate turbos with higher boost pressure, a few new lines of software for the control chip, and two new petrol pumps with greater throughput – the 585 hp of the official G 63 already sound like a little more than a nice try. And where the original 850 Newton meters make legs, up to 1050 Newton meters are waiting to tear the asphalt with the 295 millimeter wide tires at the front and 355 millimeter wide tires on the imposing 24-inch wheels in large shreds. And at least in theory, the new Brabus G 900 Rocket Edition could even score with 1250 Newton meters.

But that would not only overwhelm the nine-speed automatic but possibly also the stomach of the: the driver: in. a few new lines of software for the control chip and two new petrol pumps with greater throughput – the 585 hp of the official G 63 already sound like little more than a nice try. First test drive

And already at the kick down with the new Brabus G 900 Rocket Edition an iron fist digs deep into the bowels when he ignites his engine during the first test drive and chases the horizon at full thrust. Especially since it looks much more impressive when viewed from the leather high seat of a Mercedes G-Class than in a low-flying vehicle like the AMG GT. As tightly as the newly tuned chassis ties the band with the road and as bravely as the brakes, which are big and heavy as the weights on Arnie’s dumbbells, counteract the propulsion, there is also certain anxiety mixed in with the enthusiasm. Just like our eyes, it gets bigger and bigger as the end of the runway approaches. And this end is approaching damn fast in the G 900.

But it’s not the final speed alone anyway, which makes the G 900 in the Rocket Edition such a spectacular experience. It is just as impressive to see the spectacle with which the Brabus strolls down the boulevard. Because in its lush carbon regalia with wide flared fenders, hats on the bonnet, and spoilers on the roof, the G-Class becomes a gladiator who does not tolerate anyone next to it when it is on display. And if a Lamborghini Urus or a Bentley Bentayga rebels somewhere, the new Brabus G 900 Rocket Edition will roar the upstarts with the fanfare of its flap exhaust. MERCEDES G-CLASS UPGRADED TO THE NEW BRABUS G 900 ROCKET EDITION

While Brabus has upgraded the outside of the Mercedes G-Class to a battle vehicle, the new Brabus G 900 Rocket Edition will become a luxury lounge inside. At the front, you can see more leather, carbon, and fire-red anodized trim in each of the 25 planned cars than AMG felt it would process for the entire fleet. In the rear, Brabus has installed individual seats that are otherwise only available in the S-Class – including a cooler compartment and folding tables. In addition, three additional instruments in the sky show the backbenchers: inside, what madness they have gotten into. Because in addition to the time and outside temperature, they also show the speed.

When you take a look at it at the latest, it is high time for a strong sip from the onboard bar. Perhaps the coolest extra of this steam ram in lacquer and leather can only be seen from the outside and then only in the dark. Because for the first time, Brabus is installing two tailpipes that are illuminated in fire red. The ultimate homage to the name – because at least on a small scale, we feel reminded of two burning rocket engines on the first test drive with the new Brabus G900 Rocket Edition.
