The British manufacturer MG, now part of the Chinese SAIC group, has managed to return to the market in a more than striking way, since just five years after being resurrected it has managed to reach one million units sold, and that is without counting the registrations in China. . A positive dynamic where electric cars have had a lot to do and that has facilitated their entry into markets as demanding as the European one.
This has been possible thanks to a strong expansion that has led MG to have a presence in 84 countries around the world, and achieve a position in the top 10 sales in 17 markets.
In Spain, MG landed just over a year ago and in that time it has already managed to complete some notable milestones, such as 700 units sold in 2021, which has multiplied to 2,122 units in the first six months of 2022. A sign of its strong growth at a difficult time for manufacturers who see their sales figures reduced
This year MG has set out to reach 5,000 registered units. Something that given the deliveries in the first half of the year seems an achievable goal, especially if we take into account both the deliveries of the updated version of the MG ZS, which mounts a 72 kWh battery, which gives it 440 km of WLTP autonomy.
The MG EHS and ZS have been the protagonists of this success. Two models that have permeated the entire European public and that in Spain have risen to places of privilege in their segments. The MG EHS was the best-selling plug-in hybrid in Spain in April, with 241 units and a 5.5% market share. The MG ZS has also achieved some great numbers, entering the list of the ten best-selling models in its segment in April.
But without a doubt, the great protagonist of 2022 will be the new MG 4. A very serious proposal from the Asian manufacturer that seeks to attack a very popular segment in Europe, the compact ones, with a much more modern and attractive design that represents a huge leap forward, and which will begin deliveries in Europe in the last quarter of this year.
This will mean that in 2023, speaking of pure electrics, MG will have a catalog made up of the ZS compact SUV, the Marvel SUV, the MG 5 family sedan, and the MG 4. A complete and very competitive range that will surely allow it to continue growing steadily. unstoppable.
Pedro García, Vice President of MG Spain, stated that “ MG has already reached its first million units sold outside of China and has all the potential to reach two million in a couple of years. In Spain, there are already nearly 3,000 customers circulating with an MG vehicle. Our range has not stopped growing: we started with only two models and we already have five available. And the same happens with the network, we already have 24 service points at full capacity, which cover more than 90% of the Spanish market, and we plan to double them this year, with a presence in practically all the provinces of the Spanish territory. MG is high technology available to everyone ”.
