The new Hyundai KONA 2024 is a radical change compared to the previous generation, and an undoubted improvement in all aspects. It greatly reduces the distance compared to the Hyundai Tucson, which is its older brother, and has the enormous advantage that it has electric versions. It is available with two different batteries and in two power levels. And now its official prices have been announced, those of the electric Hyundai KONA, and the surprise has been huge because it is cheaper than a Tesla Model Y.
Compared to the previous generation, the electric Hyundai KONA 2024 has gone from 4.21 meters that it measured before to 4.36 meters that it measures now. So, effectively, it is much closer to the Hyundai Tucson. But its design has also matured and has taken a great leap in quality and equipment inside. With regard specifically to the electric versions, the basic configuration previously had 39 kWh of battery and now reaches 48.4 kWh of energy storage capacity. With this, its range also improves, which has become 377 km in the WLTP cycle and together with a 156 HP electric motor. Yes, it also has 20 HP more than before and reaches 255 Nm of maximum torque.
The new electric Hyundai KONA 2024 is cheaper than the Tesla Model Y, although it is much better than before
The other version of the electric Hyundai KONA has a battery with 65.4 kWh of energy storage capacity, which powers a 218 HP electric motor. In this case, the differences are not so great, but it offers up to 514 km of electric range in the WLTP cycle if equipped with 17-inch wheels. We are talking, by the way, about an electric car that has a 5-year warranty with no mileage limit and an 8-year battery life of 160,000 km for the battery. So, in short, we are looking at one of the most interesting electric cars in this category.
And the prices, without discounts, for the recently launched electric Hyundai KONA, are 33,950 euros for the cheapest version of the range including the MOVES III Plan. This is the version with a 48 kWh battery and a 156 HP motor along with the Flexx finish. The next level of equipment goes up to 37,900 euros, and to make the jump to the 65 kWh battery with a 218 HP motor, the price is already 38,350 euros with the basic finish. Above there are two other finishes with identical features, one for 42,300 euros and the highest of the range for 43,400 euros.
Taking into account the brand’s discounts, the minimum price at which the new electric Hyundai KONA is now available is an attractive 31,740 euros with the basic mechanical configuration. And if we go to the version with more power and range , the price is 36,140 euros. And yes, this new generation is indeed somewhat more expensive than the previous one, but it has improved in everything and, above all, it remains at a lower price than the Tesla Model Y. Which is where the Korean brand has set its sights to define the commercial strategy of the Hyundai KONA 2024 with its fully electric versions.
Even the cheapest version of the model already comes with very good equipment included as standard. It has full LED lights, and dual-zone automatic climate control and also comes with a 12.3-inch touchscreen compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Perhaps the biggest drawback of this version is that it has a conventional heating system, it does not have a heat pump. It is the same thing that MG does, which does not include a heat pump in its basic versions, while manufacturers like BYD do opt for including a heat pump even in their cheapest versions.
