KIA EV6: Will come with E-GMP Platform

The Kia electric crossover now has a name: EV6. It is the first model with the manufacturer’s new EV nomenclature. Kia has also released the first teaser pictures and further information about the EV6. Read on for more details.

Kia will launch a new electric crossover SUV in the first quarter of 2021. The Kia EV6 is the first car that was built exclusively for battery operation and is based on the new E-GMP electrical platform. This new model will have a sportier styling than the Kia e-Niro and will also have a longer electric range. You will probably be able to buy it before 2022, i.e. at the end of 2021.

The new Kia EV6 will be the brand’s first purpose-built electric car after the Kia e-Niro and the Kia e-Soul. All upcoming electric Kia models will also be given a new name, starting with “EV”. As a result, the naming should become uniform worldwide and the customers should be able to quickly recognize that it is an electric car.

New Kia electric SUV: exterior design

With the EV6, Kia is pursuing a new design approach for electric cars. It should accompany its owner in every day-to-day situation and therefore be easy and intuitive to use. The teaser images show that the EV6 has a sporty and elegant design and is heavily inspired by the Kia CV Concept, which was presented at the 2019 Geneva Motor Show.

KIA EV6

You can see similar lines on the front bumper and arches, and when you look at the car from the front it appears to have good ground clearance.

The coupé-like SUV shape can be seen from the side. There’s an aggressively curved roofline that tapers towards the trunk. You can also see that big wheels have been mounted that look like they were designed for maximum aerodynamics.

KIA EV6

Kia also recently released an official teaser pic of the new EV6. It didn’t reveal much about the new car’s design yet, but you could see a subtle rear spoiler perched on the sloping, coupe-style roof. This is exactly what you can see quite clearly in the new pictures.

KIA EV6 interior

There are no pictures of the interior of the EV6 yet, but since it will be Kia’s first EV model, it can be assumed that Kia will go to great lengths to impress with the interior of this car.

KIA EV6 rear

We expect a lot of comfort, seats made from a mix of materials, as well as the paneling. At least one large touchscreen is to be expected, and it remains to be seen whether the slightly sloping roofline in the rear means that there are restrictions in terms of headroom.

New Kia electric SUV: battery and charging process

The new Kia EV6 will be built on the new E-GMP electric platform (a collection of components developed by Kia and Hyundai specifically for electric cars). This will also be used by the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 5.

KIA EV6

The Kia Crossover is expected to have a range of around 480 kilometers and a charging time of under 20 minutes with the latest public 100 kW fast-charging stations. A full charge on an 11 kW wall box will take about 6 hours.

KIA EV6 Prices

Kia has confirmed that the new EV6 will be presented in the first quarter of 2021. It is not yet known when it will go on sale. Kia’s most popular electric car, the e-Niro, currently costs from 35,290 euros in Germany, but we assume that the new model will cost a little more thanks to its larger forecast range.
