After a long wait, Tesla has started to deliver the first units of the new Model X “refresh”. The renewed electric SUV, whose restyling was presented at the end of January, has suffered a slight delay in its arrival to the market because the company decided to prioritize the production of its younger brother, the also recently updated Model S.
For the moment, the first deliveries have been concentrated in California, although it is expected that later they will be extended to the rest of the United States, a market in which currently the delivery dates announced in the configurator are extraordinarily distant: September 2022 for the Long Range variant and July for the Plaid sports version.
The new Tesla Model X is characterized by a slightly renovated exterior design (the main change is found in bumpers similar in design to those of the Model 3 and Model Y) and by a cabin that, in contrast, has been deeply updated to keep up-to-date in the face of competition that is advancing faster and faster.
Like the Model S, the new Model X features a full rimless “yoke” steering wheel, which dispenses with the classic levers anchored to the steering column in favor of a series of haptic controls. Also new are the 12.3-inch digital instrumentation, the 17-inch “cinematic” touchscreen, and the 8-inch display for second-row passengers.

The infotainment system includes a gaming computer with 10 teraflops of processing power and compatibility with a wireless controller. It also has streaming services such as Netflix, Hulu, YouTube, or Twitch available through the premium connectivity package, and there is no shortage of elements such as the tri-zone climate control, the HEPA filter for the cabin, and a heat pump system.
The “entry” version of the Model X, called the Long Range, has a Dual Motor powertrain made up of two electric motors, so it comes with all-wheel drive as standard. Its estimated autonomy is about 579 km, a figure approved under the demanding US EPA cycle. Therefore, the premium SUV is closer than ever to the 600 km barrier.
The Plaid sports variant is characterized by equipping a Tri-Motor powertrain composed of three powertrains (one on the front axle, two on the rear) capable of delivering a combined maximum power of 1,020 hp, allowing the Model X to do 0 to 60 miles per hour (0-96.6 km / h) in no less than 2.5 seconds. In this case, its range is 547 km EPA.
