Peugeot has a large presence of electric models in its launch calendar. The current range will grow with the arrival of the new generation of the Peugeot 508, which will be 100% electric. He will maintain his philosophy, but it will change radically.
The segment of general sedans has declined a lot in recent years. The model offer has lost important models such as the Ford Mondeo. Few brands refuse to disappear in a category that years ago turned out to be one of the most important in Europe. Peugeot is one of those companies. The French, with their Peugeot 508, remain firm, although they know that they will have to apply very important changes for the next generation. So much so that the next Peugeot 508 that we see will be 100% electric, with a brutal performance and a rival that wants to lay its paw on.
The Tesla Model 3 has shown that sedans have not said their last word. With a much more logical bodywork for an electric car, the American model is among the best-selling cars in the world in 2022. The 508 wants to position itself as a direct rival, so we can anticipate an approximate size of 4.7 meters and a sale price of around 45,000 euros. Although SUVs have displaced any conventional niche, not all of Peugeot’s offers will revolve around them, although it is true that the 508 will remain the only saloon in the house, if we do not include the Peugeot 308, of course.
As we learned a few days ago, Peugeot is ready to present five 100% electric models until 2025 and we already know two of them. The celebration of E-Lon Day on January 27 left us with many important headlines. The first scheduled arrivals will be those of the Peugeot e-308 and Peugeot e-3008. The 3008 is the most successful model of the house and its battery version promises a range of up to 700 kilometers in the WLTP cycle. It will be presented at some point during this course, although it will not enter the commercialization phase until 2024.
Later the Peugeot e-408 and Peugeot e-5008 will arrive, but not before 2024. The next one will be the electric 508. The current generation was presented in 2018 with important innovations and a generous electrified range. However, as Autocar publishes, the next iteration will be fully electric and for this, it will have to change from head to toe. As a matter of design we must look very carefully at the Peugeot Inception Concept presented last month. A saloon with a futuristic appearance that advances the lines of the new aesthetic philosophy of the house. The important thing will hide under the bodywork.
The current Peugeot 508 uses the old PSA platforms, the EMP2 structure. The new generation, in its conversion to EV, will have to use the most current version of the STLA structure of the Stellantis Group. Numerous models of the house will use it, from the Jeep Avenger to the great e-5008. The chassis is capable of adjusting to different body lengths and wheelbases. It has been specifically designed for electric models, so we can expect very good qualities from it. Much has been speculated about a possible inductive load, although there is nothing confirmed about it. We cannot even predict powers, battery sizes, or range. We will have to wait.
