Polestar 4 to debut at the Shanghai Auto Show on April 18

The Polestar 4 will be the next electric SUV from the Swedish brand, its fastest model to date, and the toughest rival for the Tesla Model Y. It’s no secret that Polestar is having a sweet time. Under the umbrella of Geely, the company’s executives have been able to guide a new brand to success, which has just announced the presentation date of its next car: the Polestar 4. An electric SUV that takes direct aim at the world’s best-selling electric SUV, Tesla’s Model Y.

The Swedish company has officially announced that it will present the Polestar 4 on April 18 at the Shanghai Motor Show (China), just within a week, and has accompanied the announcement with an image of the hood in which little is seen. can guess. It is one of the few data that has been officially confirmed so far, although it is not the first time that we have seen this new model.

A model that, due to its characteristics, approach, and positioning in the market, is bound to win a good number of sales. We are talking about an electric SUV with a coupe-like body, very aerodynamic, which Polestar assures will be well differentiated from its first SUV.

From the Swedish firm, they say that the Polestar 4 “is not simply a modified version” of its first electric SUV, but that they have “rethought” the entire design to create a new car. The only images we have of the car are those recently shared by the CEO of Polestar during the model’s testing phase; in them, you can see a low and sharp nose, sportier than that of the Polestar 2 and 3.

Starting from the B-pillar, the design is reminiscent of a fastback-type saloon, with a relatively steep roof drop somewhat reminiscent of Audi’s Q4 and Q8 e-tron Sportback or Tesla’s Model Y. The rear is the part that we have been able to discover the least and is characterized by the horizontal pilots covering the entire width of the tailgate.

Polestar 4

Although its performance and the propellant it will use have not yet been announced, the brand has said that the Polestar 4 will be  Polestar’s fastest production car to date. In other words: it is almost certain that it will drop below 4 seconds in the 0-100 km/h, bettering the 4.2 seconds of the Polestar 2 Long range Dual engine with Performance Pack. It will also be the first Polestar built on the PMA platform, which is itself based on Geely’s SEA platform.

About the price we only know the clue that Thomas Ingenlath, CEO of Polestar, gave last year when he said that the Polestar 4 would be around 55,000 euros. We do not know if this will be the starting price or the top of the range. In any case, it will be placed, by price, as a rival to the Audi Q4 Sportback e-tron, the Ford Mustang Mach-E, the Skoda Enyaq Coupé, and, of course, the Tesla Model Y. The latter is the best-selling electric SUV in the world. world (in fact, it is already the best-selling electric car in the world after ousting the Model 3) and its price starts at 48,200 euros (before aid).
